Welcome Letter

August 10, 2017

Dear Parent(s)/Guardian,

Welcome to anew school year! I am looking forward to teaching your child this year. I am excited about the new school year! The start of classes brings us a mix of new experiences, familiar classmates, and new friends. I am excited about the opportunity to get to know you, as well, and I am looking forward to a happy and productive school year. Below I have listed some general information tohelp get our year off to a great start.

*First off, I will be teaching fourth grade Science & Social Studies this year.

*Behavior- all students have the right to learn in an environment with minimal distractions. Although I strive to maintain an enjoyable atmosphere in the classroom, I feel strongly about students working on task when it is time to do so. Your child will take the LEAP test this year and there is no time for foolishness and disruptive behavior in my classroom. Notes/phone calls will be administered first, if the disruptive behavior continues to occur, the student will be referred to the principal for disciplinary action.

*Supplies- See Course Syllabus

*Grades- your child’s nine week’s grades will be derived from weekly

tests given in Science and Social Studies.

Grades will be calculated according to the St. James Parish School System

grading scale (see student handbook).

*Parent Communication- test papers will be sent home weekly on Monday

or Tuesday. Please review them with your child because this material will be

covered again on nine weeks and/or unit exams. Please sign and return test papers

(students are given 2 days after date given to return them). If a problem

arises where your child continually does not return test papers, papers will

not be sent home anymore and it will be your responsibility to contact me to

be notified of your child’s grades. If you have any questions or concerns, please

feel free to call me at school to set up a conference. Likewise, if I feel the need to

discuss concerns about your child, I will contact you. I am looking forward to meeting

you personally and working with you so that together, we can help your child to achieve

his/her highest potential.

                                                                     Sincerely,

                                                                Mr. Lucas Cortez
